Multi-Kultur-Haus (Multicultural House) is the organization located in on the Bavarian side in Neu-Ulm which preached a neo-conservative form of Islam (Saudi Wahabbism) that promoted extremist attacks involving suicide bombing in Iraq. It was shut down in 2005 by the State of Bavaria, Germany after seizing materials urging Muslims to carry out these extremist attacks.

Leaders of the organization searched for potential converts, at the Multi-Kultur-Haus, by focusing on young people, generally between 17 and 28 years old.

Fritz Gelowicz, the leader of the Germany Massive Attack Plot which was supported by the Islamic Jihad Union, found Islam as a teenager and attended meetings at the organization. It is this organization that is believed by authorities to be the place that Fritz Gelowicz met Muhammad Atta, the main 9/11 hijacker who flew a plane into the WTC.

Radicalization

In 2006, al Qaeda and its sympathizers continued their attempts to make global jihad accessible to English-speaking Western Muslims by disseminating large amounts of violent Islamic extremist propaganda in English via media outlets and the Internet. “‘radicalism’ is defined as: ‘The active pursuit of and support for far-reaching changes in society which may constitute a danger to the democratic legal order through the threat or use of violence or other undemocratic means’¹. The focus will be on the process by which Muslims, or converts, become ‘radicalized’—that is, they come to accept the legitimacy and necessity for ongoing violent jihad against the governments and peoples of both Muslim and non-Muslim countries…

Their inspiration came from Sayyid Qutb (1906-1966)⁵ who drew upon the concept of jahiliyya (a state of barbarism and ignorance about the Prophet Mohammed’s revelations) and Wahhabism⁶ (a militant effort to purify Islam) to justify the necessity for eternal jihad in order to “abolish injustice from the earth, to bring people to the worship of God alone”.⁷ Qutb asserted that jihad was not just a means to defend Muslim lands and peoples but an offensive, proactive and permanent revolution against internal and external enemies who usurped God’s sovereignty…

Here are some details:

* The Islamic Jihad Group (IJG) also known as the Islamic Jihad Union, has been responsible for several high-profile bombings in Uzbekistan.

* The group is a splinter organization from the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), another organization operating in Central Asia.

* The IJG claimed responsibility for three days of attacks in Uzbekistan in March 2004 which killed at least 47 people. The group claimed responsibility for the bombings in April and said it would press on with its “jihad”. It has opposed the secular regime in Uzbekistan and wanted to establish an Islamic state.

* In July 2004, the group carried out coordinated bombing attacks in Tashkent against the U.S. and Israeli embassies and the office of the Uzbek prosecutor general.

– The attacks in the Uzbek capital, which killed two Uzbek security guards at the Israeli embassy, were the first on foreign targets in Uzbekistan.

– In a statement they said “(These attacks) were an answer to the injustice of the apostate government and an expression of support for the jihad (holy war) of our Muslim brothers in Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, Hijaz (Saudi Arabia) and other Muslim lands”.

* In May 2005, the U.S. State Department designated Islamic Jihad Group as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist Group. The United Nations shortly followed suit.

* Last November it was reported that Pakistan had arrested three suspects after rockets were found opposite the presidency, parliament and the headquarters of military spy agency, Inter Services Intelligence in Islamabad.

* It was also reported that the men took their orders from an Uzbek commander of the IJG named as Yakhyo, also known as Nadzhmiddin Kamilidinovich Janov.

* Uzbek militant groups relocated to Afghanistan and Pakistan’s tribal lands in the 1990s to escape a crackdown in their homeland.
