According to reports:
The suspects had as main targets the American military installations and were believed to have been planning car bombing attacks against discos, pubs, airports and other places frequented by Americans.
The group has links to Al Qaida and has received training in Pakistan.
A radical Islamic Center yet to be identified in Ulm, Germany that the group frequented, was playing an active role in the plot.
The group was a highly professional terrorist group.
The group had amassed 680 kg (1,500 pounds) of hydrogen peroxide — the same chemical used in the London transport bombs that killed 52 people and four terrorists in 2005. The bomb plot would have had more explosive power than the ones used in the London and Madrid bombings
The group attained military grade detonators and electronic components.
They began to manufacture the explosive materials and were close to completing the manufacture of this material.
Two members of the group had already scouted an American military barracks in Hanau as a possible bombing target.
The group were part of a radical Islamic cell in Germany, Islamic Jihad Union, that is based in Uzbekistan.
The group has claimed credit for suicide bombings in July 2004 near the United States and Israeli embassies, in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent. The group has called for the overthrow of the secular government in Uzbekistan.
